We have different types of topical numbing gels that do not require an injection. These gels are designed to decrease mild to moderate gum tenderness during cleanings. For those with higher levels of pain, our hygienists are certified to give local anesthetic injections, should a client feel the need.

Sedation, both nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral conscious sedation are also options for any procedure, including cleanings.

Nitrous Oxide

Known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a safe and effective option to reduce anxiety. The effects are short term. This allows you to drive yourself to your appointment and back.

Laughing gas is a preferred sedation method for children. It’s easily administered through a small oxygen mask that fits over your nose. Your eyes will begin to close the moment oxygen is delivered, for a completely relaxed experience.

Valium Sedation

Valium ensures that you’re relaxed, even before making your way into the office. This form of sedation is used for enhanced anxiety reduction. We recommend valium for patients who suffer from a prominent tongue, strong gag reflex, and muscle tension from TMJ.
